Brake Systems & Load Protection
Your hoist’s braking system is the last line of defense between a controlled lift and a dropped load. Ace engineers multiple layers of brake monitoring and control into every system to make sure that line is never tested.
Hoist Motor Torque Proving: Ensures the motor can hold the load upon holding brake release. Signals the operator if there is a problem. Holding brakes remain closed until the system confirms it is safe to proceed.
Hoist Holding Brake Check: Ensures the brake is not slipping after torque transfer from the motor to the brake at the end of a run cycle. If the mechanical holding brake is slipping, the hoist motor and control system will hold the load in suspension. The operator can be notified in several ways — owner/site specified.
Hoist Alternating Brake Check: For enhanced safety systems with multiple or redundant brakes, this feature individually checks each brake in the same fashion as the Hoist Holding Brake Check, ensuring every layer of redundancy is performing at spec.
Drum Brakes: An enhanced safety brake that activates upon E-Stop. Can also be utilized with drive train discontinuity monitoring between high-speed and low-speed gearing and shafting, or during overspeed conditions, to automatically detect drive train issues and engage the drum brakes.
Load Control & Precision Handling
Getting the load off the ground safely is one part of the job. Keeping it stable, centered, and under control throughout every movement is another. These features give operators precise, predictable command over every lift and travel motion.
Side Pulling Prevention: Prevents lifting if the load block is not vertically aligned with the drum. This stops the load from immediately swinging when lifted off the ground, reducing the risk of instability and structural stress on the crane.
Micro-Speed: Allows very slow or creep speeds for all motions for precise load control and positioning — 40:1 reduction for travel motions and 1000:1 for closed-loop hoisting. Ideal for tight placements and sensitive loads.
Electronic Torque Limiting: The control system limits motor torque to help prevent mechanical stress and damage to the equipment caused by overloading.
Load Float: The hoist motor suspends the load without engaging the holding brakes, allowing for precise and fine position control of the load during critical placements.
Anti-Shock: When a user snags or snatches the load without first taking the slack out of the rigging, the controls automatically stabilize the system by detecting and minimizing rapid increases in hoist motor torque — reducing the potential for crane damage caused by operator-induced load shock.
Load Measurement & Weight Monitoring
Knowing exactly what’s on the hook isn’t just useful — it’s a safety requirement. Ace hoist systems can be equipped with integrated load measurement technology to keep every lift within safe operating limits.
Load Cells: Provide accurate weight measurement and overload protection. Features include load summation between hoists, and wireless load summation between cranes for tandem picks. Lifted weight accuracy depends on application features and the complexity of the system.
Electrical & Power Protection
Power events and electrical faults can cause immediate safety hazards and serious equipment damage if left unchecked. Ace hoist systems include built-in protection against the most common and damaging electrical fault conditions.
Safe Torque Off: A SIL3-rated safety control circuit that ensures motors are disconnected from the power source without the use of power contactors, providing a high-integrity means of stopping motor torque in an emergency.
Phase Loss Detection: Detects input and output phase loss conditions, preventing unsafe or potentially damaging operation under compromised power supply.
Ground Fault / Short Circuit Protection: Detects ground fault and output short circuit conditions, preventing crane operation until the issue is identified and resolved.
Anti-Sway Control
A swinging load is one of the most dangerous and disruptive conditions in overhead crane operation. It puts stress on the structure, reduces placement accuracy, and puts workers at risk. Ace offers both open-loop and closed-loop sway control solutions to address this at the source.
Sway Control: Open-loop VFD-based and closed-loop camera-based anti-sway control for bridge and trolley motions. Camera-based systems are often used when high-precision control is required or when external forces such as wind are influencing load movement.
Multi-Crane Coordination & Collision Prevention

Hoist Synchronization: Precise multiple hoist synchronization to maintain level or offset picks — for hoists on the same crane as well as hoists on cranes operating on the same or adjacent runways.
Crane-to-Crane Synchronization: Allows a single operator to control multiple cranes simultaneously in a master/slave configuration, simplifying tandem lifts and improving consistency.
Tandem Operation Interlocking: Crane-to-crane interlocking of individual motion speeds, limit switches, and safety features. If one motion stops, it also stops on the other crane to prevent uneven loading. Requires crane-to-crane communication and status interlocking.
Anti-Collision: Crane-to-crane, crane-to-wall, and multi-level crane detection — available for some of the harshest and most congested operating environments.
